222 pretty easily and trim the throat to length.ġ. Fewer choices for brass but you can resize. Not a ton of commercial ammo choices (and most is hunting, rather than target grade).Ĥ. barrel life is just about infinite (ok, I am exaggerating, but it is long)ġ. 18 grains of 4198 or thereabouts is a pretty common load.ĥ. So I would consider your location and your "standard" weather when you make your choice:Ģ. Heavier, longer bullets up to 69 grain are going to buck the wind better for you at 250 yards, at least in theory. 223 1:9 is pretty common and I think the CZ 527 Varmint comes in that twist rate. You top out at a 55 grain bullet there before your bullet starts to yaw/tumble from understabilization. 222's are all 1:12 or the much more common 1:14. 223? You can easily get faster twist barrels. Although as you can see from my notes, there was little or no wind when I shot that target. Group size on that 200 yard target is about 1.5 inches - so sub-MOA at 200 yards. These are with 40 grain Blitzkings and a Savage with a Shilen barrel, not a CZ, but it shows what the round can do. If you do get one before I do please post pictures.to help hold me over until I get mine. The 223 has more power and is cheaper to shoot. But in my eyes the 222 is better for my needs. There is not much to choose from on factory ammo unless you order it on line. The 222 reloading materials are getting harder to find.not like it was 20 years ago.

If you just want to buy ammo and shoot the 223 has a lot of different options for you to choose from.if your heart is into reloading then both will work.but for me the 222 is special. I did buy a 527 Royal in 223.and both the Varmint and Royal are still unfired. So now that will be the next one for me to buy. I bought the American as my first CZ centerfire rifle.at the time they did not have or did I know they even made a Varmint rifle.about two months after the Varmint was bought the FS showed up. Today I have two CZ rifles in 222 one is an American and the other is the special run of a 527 Varmint rifle. Well sir it all depends on how much you want to reload.I use to do a lot of reloading when I was younger.
